Volunteers help fulfill our mission in every way. Working with survivors is such an important job, and so is helping out in our office or at our shelter.
What kinds of ways can I help out in the office?
Office volunteers are able to assist in a number of different ways, from helping out sort through the generous donations from our community to helping staff the boutique. Each way a volunteer helps out in our office also directly helps a survivor we work with.
What kinds of ways can I help out at CHS Shelter?
Support our emergency shelter by organizing materials, preparing rooms for residents, shopping for food and supplies, and assisting at the Mosaic Activity Center (MAC) with children’s activities, story time, library programs, and general upkeep. Every way a volunteer helps out at our shelter has a direct impact on a resident’s experience.
Do I need to go through training to volunteer in the office or at shelter?
All office or shelter volunteers will need to attend an orientation session. You do not need to attend the advocate training. Office and shelter volunteers will not work directly with survivors. Instead, they help out with our more clerical/administrative type of work.
Is there a time commitment to volunteering in the office?
Ability to provide a consistent 2-3 hour shift at least every other week is preferred.
Where and when can I volunteer?
All office volunteers can give their time at our main Advocacy Office on Center Street or at our Mosaic shelter on Portland road. Our regular office hours are from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, which is when volunteers can help out. Our office and shelter is not open on the evenings or weekends and there would not be an option to give time that way.
What would happen if I wanted to become an advocate?
If seeing the valuable work that our advocates do inspires you to become an advocate, you would need to go through advocacy training, after which you would become an advocate and can begin working with survivors.
